Morehead Memorial Hospital Third Most Affordable in State
A recent study conducted by NerdWallet, a company geared toward helping individuals with their money, shows that Morehead Memorial Hospital is the third most affordable in the state.

The study answered three primary questions: which hospital offers affordable treatments, what are the treatments and how satisfied are patients.

Morehead ranked number three out of 10 hospitals for affordable treatments for spinal stenosis, dehydration and severe anemia. The study was limited to the top 100 treatments.

Chief Development Officer Ed Holbrook said hospitals are seeing more studies being done by different groups to educate the public.

"This is the kind of information that is being encouraged through the Affordable Care Act," Holbrook said. "It is a trend that has been going on for several years, and this study was just another added dimension to that."

Morehead Memorial thrives on "a commitment to quality care, patient safety and clinical excellence." Holbrook said that being ranked third is a result of the staff's hard work.

"Among our guiding principles are stewardship, compassion, innovation and respect," said Holbrook. "Our staff and our management take these principles very seriously. We would never do anything in terms of what we do in the affordability equation to compromise our quality of service."

Morehead Memorial Hospital Opens Urgent Care Center
The newly constructed Morehead Urgent Care Center - West is now open in western Rockingham County. Located at 6501-B Highway 135, the center provides high-quality care for injuries and minor illnesses such as sore throats, coughs, fever, rashes, minor injuries, headaches, vomiting, flu-like symptoms or respiratory difficulties associated with asthma or allergies. Patients with medical problems requiring a doctor’s attention, but which are not serious enough to require a trip to the emergency room, are the patients the center serves.

Operating hours for the urgent care center are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. A physician is at the center during these hours to allow patients an opportunity to see a doctor without an appointment. Patients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis or based on medical need.
Morehead Memorial Hospital Partners with Novant Health
R. Scott Barham, Chairman of the Morehead Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, announced Thursday, January 23, that a new shared services agreement with Novant Health has been signed. The organizations will work together in key areas including supply chain, strategic planning, and corporate resources. By combining forces, the two organizations expect to optimize the supply chain and bring value to the patients of Morehead Memorial Hospital. An email went out to hospital/medical staff which stated, “The Board of Morehead Memorial Hospital looks forward to this new relationship with Novant Health. The shared services agreement will help the hospital further its healthcare mission in our community.”

The execution of the shared services contract comes after several months of conversations with executives of Novant Health Shared Services Division. The agreement is effective February 1. The QHR contract will remain in effect during the term of the shared services agreement with Novant.
